By now you’ve probably heard of James Blake. Over the last month the young producer and his self-titled debut have become the focus for a heated internet discussion over dubstep and what exactly he brings to the genre. That Blake is such a divisive figure is hardly his fault, but it only takes one listen to his long player to reveal the problem: this is being touted as the point at which dubstep crosses over into the mainstream, and ultimately it’s not really a dubstep a record at all.
